Water Songs – Our Favorite Tunes About Water

Water…we love to swim in it, drink it, paddle over it, sit by it…and for a lot of artists apparently, sing about it. We thought it’d be fun to tally up the best songs we could find about water – in all its forms. Let us know what you think of our list – what’d we miss? Did we give a little flashback to your 90’s school dance? Did you find a little boogie in your day? Music like water unites us all!

TLC – “Waterfalls”

The classic 90’s girl power song that we all knew every word to and sung them loud at school dances, talent shows, and in the car. Many of us even learned the dance (or is that just us?).

Milli Vanilli – “Blame it on the Rain”

Circa 1989 a record company recruited dancer/models Robert Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan, gave them some catchy lyrics and a pre-recorded track and the rest is history. #GrammyWonThenLost

Otis Redding – “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay”

Ahhhh…the ballad for those of us who love to sit along a body of water and just breathe. Otis Redding may not have been sitting on the edge of Wagon Hill Farm in Durham when he wrote this but we think he’d have been quite inspired if he had!

Brad Paisley – “Water”

A true tribute to the places, spaces, and experiences with water from beer, to lakes, to Spring Break!

Simon & Garfunkel – “Bridge Over Troubled Water”

It was 1981 and Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were performing a free concert in Central Park to more than 500,000 people. The proceeds from the concert went to redevelopment and maintenance of Central Park as it had fallen into disrepair due to lack of city funding. What a way to gather and support your open spaces!

And because of THE RED SOX WINNING THE WORLD SERIES we just had to include…

The Standells – “Dirty Water”

Now granted our goal here isn’t so much celebrating ‘dirty’ water but this song is a classic Boston Red Sox anthem and it wouldn’t be proper as true Sox fans not to include it our list.

And last, but best…we could not leave off what is probably the BEST tribute to our own watershed, our communities, and our history. There’s shoutouts to so many of our Seacoast towns – we see you & love you South Berwick. We know our Every Drop alliance partners at The Gundalow Company especially love this one! #GundalowRoll

The Shaw Brothers – “Gundalow Song”

So…let us have it – what’d we miss?
